NANIMARQUINA New Tones collection
Tones Collection
Nani Marquina + Claudia Valsells
Tones by Nani Marquina and artist Claudia Valsells is a new collection that uses color as
a primary tool. Four designs that break with the geometric and symmetrical tension traditionally employed in rugs.
The collection is based on a design that invites you to live the rug, a contemporary reinterpretation
of the traditional process of building a rug through color and simple forms. The design itself invites people or furniture
into the middle of it rather than merely being spectators of the piece.
"Tones 1, 2 and 3 rugs come from an exploration and subsequent reinterpretation of the traditional way of building a rug, which has always primarily been an external frame with a series of central elements." Nani Marquina
Variety of techniques
Tones collection has been developed using two techniques that provide differing finishes and sensations. The hand-tufted technique allows Clàudia Valsells' work to be transferred literally, and is the closest thing to creating on a blank canvas. However, the ancestral technique of kilim provides an aged and irregularly woven appearance by using of Afghani wool, which gives it a new perception.
